Clear expectations, safer choices
How SafeGuard works
SafeGuard is a browser-based personal safety companion. These are the features you can use today, and their important limits.
Your permissions
Location
Not requestedRequested when you get your location or start a monitoring session. Coordinates come from your device; no GPS values are fabricated.
Camera
Not requestedRequested after you choose Enable camera. Used only in the foreground. No microphone, gallery, or background camera permissions are requested.
Permission labels reflect this session’s requests, not a continuous audit of your browser settings. SMS uses your device’s messaging app; SafeGuard does not request permission to send SMS.
Built for the browser
This app runs with React and TypeScript. It is not a Kotlin/XML Android application and does not use CameraX or native Android location APIs.
- A secure page (HTTPS or localhost) is required for camera and location access.
- Embedded previews may block device access. Open the published app in its own browser tab if permissions are unavailable.
- Keep the page open. Browsers may pause timers and location updates in the background.
- No AI model, automatic danger detection, background service, or automatic contact notification is included.
Test every safety tool
1. Start a safety session
On the dashboard, press Start monitoring. Allow location when prompted. The status becomes active; Stop monitoring ends location updates.
2. Read a real location
Press Get my location. Allow access and check latitude, longitude, and accuracy. Open Google Maps. Deny access to verify the recovery message.
3. Capture a photo
Open camera, enable access, and wait for the live preview. Press Capture photo, then download it. Test permission denial and a disconnected camera.
4. Run a safety timer
Set a 1-minute timer. Press I’m safe to cancel, or let it expire to see the in-app emergency. Reopen the app to check a saved timer’s end time.
5. Practice an emergency
Press SIMULATE EMERGENCY. Capture a photo or prepare SOS. Press I’m safe to cancel. No message is automatically sent.
6. Prepare an SOS message
Save a real trusted contact. Review the message and location. Copy it, or open your SMS app on a phone. Sending is your action and delivery is unverified.

Frequently asked questions
Does SafeGuard automatically detect danger?
No. Emergency workflows are triggered by your demo button or a missed timer check-in. There is no AI detection model.
Has my SOS message actually been sent?
SafeGuard prepares a draft and can request your SMS composer. Only your messaging app sends the SMS. SafeGuard cannot verify sending or delivery.
Why is GPS or camera access unavailable?
Check device location services, browser site permissions, and HTTPS. Your device may have no camera or location provider. Embedded browsers can also block permissions.
Where is my information stored?
The contact, timer deadline, theme, and activity history are stored locally in this browser. Coordinates and photos stay in memory. Photos disappear when you leave unless you download them. Local storage is not encrypted.
In a real emergency, contact your local emergency services directly. SafeGuard is not monitored by a response team and cannot guarantee assistance.
